Field guide / Assets

An alert is the start of a maintenance decision.

Connect condition monitoring to inspection, work orders and an explicit economic boundary.

Choose the failure mode first

Identify the equipment population, the specific failure mechanism and the operational consequence. An anomaly is not itself a diagnosed failure. A useful maintenance exercise states what evidence would trigger inspection and what qualified staff must confirm.

Connect information to action

GE Vernova’s asset performance materials connect equipment data, asset strategy and maintenance workflows. Siemens Energy’s Noedra Node materials connect sensing, inspection and predictive analysis inside substations. These are examples of a wider shift toward context around the asset. [G3, N2]

Count the cost of being wrong

Missed failures and unnecessary interventions create different consequences. Count inspection time, false alarms, integration, licensing and support alongside an assumed reduction in expected event losses. Avoid treating every model alert as an avoided failure or claiming that historical savings guarantee a future outcome.

Prove the change over time

Define a baseline event rate with its observation period and uncertainty. Track alert precision, warning time, investigation outcomes and operational follow-through. Where events are rare, a short trial may validate workflow feasibility while providing very little evidence about annual financial benefits.
